And it all crashes down, and you break your crown, You point your finger but there’s noone around
Just want one thing, just to play the king
But the castle is crumbled and you’re left with just a name
Where’s your crown king nothing?
You know…I honestly forgot how much of a badass song that is. As a whole the song is and of itself powerful and carries a powerful meaning. I mean…what else would you expect from the title track of the album? Oh…I’m sorry, you must not know. The in-working song title for “King Nothing” was “Load”. Hence the title track comment. Heh. Plus! It’s got a good beat, and you can dance to it!
In a week, our first show as a quartet will happen. I never thought I’d actually be nervous about a show ever again. It’s a small show, but it’s a celebration (bitches!). This is the official Das Spookez demo release party. I guess it’s also going to be the Warehouse 86 debut party! There is going to be a handful of bands there, and a “rapper” that I know of. Quite funny. The rapper seperates us, and the Spookez. Devious thoughts come to mind…
If you’ve seen or heard us before, take all of that, and toss it out the window. We’ve ultimately re-invinted ourselves. Oh…we’re still heavy. My brother described us by suggesting if Evanesence lost all the synth and effects, and came from sweden. I guess that’s a complement on how heavy and diverse we are. I dunno…I’d much rather be from Canada….but their bacon is actually ham. Anyhow…the setlist is totally reset itself as well. We’re definitly playing some of the old stuff, but of course, with a new twist…and we damn well got a decent amount of new material. We’ve got a 45 minute slot, and we’re going to abuse every minute of it. We’re going to try (I hope/think) to toss in another new one as well, that’ll bring the total up to eight! May not sound like much, but when you hear it, you’ll drop a load!
Ah fuck it! Here’s the songs we’re gonna play, (not in order because I can’t remember…heh):
- Dirge
- Jealousy*
- Escaped Solitude*
- Esophogus*
- Lost Virgin*
- Broken List
- Shadowed Thoughts
Notice all those *’s? All those are NEW! Esophogus is the first song we’ve ever written as a quartet. The other two were songs she picked out of a big and we put music to. They all kick ass! And trust me, even though it’s missing the heaviness, Esophogus is a very very good song. We’re going to try to add another one of ours to the set to make it an even 4 and 4. We’re thinking of throwing the in-working song “Shackles” on there. It makes Broken List sound like Oasis. And it’s got slow pretty parts. You know how I’m a big fan of slow pretty parts!
We’re also working on getting into the studio soon. It’ll probably be early 2007 before we can hit it though. We need to rehearse the newer material into the ground, and we’re also shooting for no less than ten tracks. We’re going to be video and audio recording the show and all the other shows we have to probably release as a “Live EP” just to give to people. Maybe. We may only put them up for download though…who knows. There are a lot of ideas floating around!
Speaking of ideas. Dusty, my friend, and owner and operator of retro|tv offered myself a slot for the upcoming “season”. (heh). So after tossing ideas around and at his suggestion…we’re going to have a program entitled “Project E.I.G.H.T.Y. S.I.X.” OR “Project 8.6″ (which I like better…) It’s going to be like behind the music , some kinda monster, etc thing with a smidgen of drama, and a dash of jackass/viva la bam. Filming has already commenced and a Teaser should be up within the next two weeks. We’ve got enough film as of now to have atleast two 25 minute episodes, but we’re not going to start actually producing them until we’ve got a healthy cache of scenes.
And my birthday just get’s better and better! This year, I’m getting the Nintendo “revolution”. I refuse to call it a wii, because it sounds like genitals. Damn…I just did! Anyhow, also picking up the new zelda, excite truck, the new marvel game, as well as a couple of others. That in and of itself is pure sex, but on my actual birthday…December 5th (hint hint), Metallica is releasing all their videos on DVD. ON MY BIRTHDAY! That makes me really happy!
All in all…good times. My hands are swollen from band practice, but it’s a good hurt. I’m thinking about adding more cymbals. I can hear everyone now….”cymbal whore…” you’re fucking-a right! I love my cymbals, but this marks the first time that I might actually venture outside of my Z Custom area. Oh…they’re still going to be Zildjian..what kinda fool you take me for? I’m looking at maybe a nice z-bell or two. Accents. Also gotta get me a 17in Z custom crash…my 18 finally bit the dust *cue Queen*. But I’ll be bringing back another 18 as well! I gotta have my low end crashes. It’s POWER!
I’m still playing with 7A nylon tipped sticks. I have a pair of Rock N for back up in case, but I played around with them yesterday and they felt so big and heavy. (heh!) It also started my shoulder aching so it didn’t last more than a smidgen of a warm up. I’m spoiled on the 7A’s now. I don’t split them as much as you’d think, but every now and then when a good practice happens, I split a couple.
But that’s why I got a nice healthy supply in the stick bag!
You’re about to read a book my foot wrote, it’s called “On the road to ‘In Your Ass’!”
